Style a Bookshelf | Tips

The styling of a bookshelf can help change the overall feeling of any room. If the bookshelf is organized and no distracting the whole room will seem organized and cohesive. However, if the bookshelf is busy and distracting it can create an over feeling of clutter in the space.

Here are a few simple tricks to help make your bookshelf appear more organized and cohesive to create a calming effect in the room.

The easiest way to create a cohesive look is to have books and figures of a similar color palette. This can be accomplished using book covers or turning the books around to see the pages sides instead of the spine. I didn't want to buy book covers and it bothered me having the books turned the wrong way.. so I went for size similarity instead of color.

- First set all the shelves so they are evenly space (as evenly spaced as possible)

- Next organize your books by height. We tried height and book type. As you can see we were able to keep all the JK Rowling books together.

-The goal is to make your book stacks of similar heights.

To do this you may have to stack short books on sideways laying books or create a book cluster of vertical and horizontal books. Thinks squares and rectangles.

-Next fill in the spaces between your book stacks with pictures, figurines, literally anything you want.

-Lastly, hang some of the pictures & figures used to fill in space. If the bookshelves are deep bring any items on the shelf forward leaving space behind the books and figures.
