A Timeline of Montessori Toys

Updated: Sep 19, 2020

Montessori learning is a child centered approach to education. Developed by Maria Montessori in 1897. Her observations of mistreatment of the children with mental disorders led her to the creation of her new form of education (Montessori Education)

Montessori learning is at the core free activity within a "prepared environment". Each stage of learning is modeled from natural human development.

Toys for the first Month: vision

Toys for Month 1-2: vision + hands

You may notice your baby stating to bat at things. Give them something to swing at that makes noise when they hit it.

Toys for Month 2-3: hand discovery

You baby is now learning they can move and control their hands. They are not too god at controlling them yet but not only do they still love to swing and grab at toys they want to explore their hands and fingers. Meaning, putting them in their mouth. At this age, babies use their mouth for discovery. Everything they are exploring gets tested out with their mouth.
